Mauritius suspends Bet 593 Ltd operations over suspected money laundering
The GRA said the suspension is a precautionary regulatory measure intended to prevent any continuation of potentially illegal financial activity while the criminal investigation proceeds.
Mauritius.- The Mauritius gambling regulator has suspended the operating licences of Bet 593 Ltd after an internal probe uncovered suspected money laundering linked to the operator’s betting activities.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) ordered the immediate halt of all betting operations by the company on March 4. The directive requires Bet 593 Ltd to stop its local horse racing betting and international football wagering services across both retail outlets and online platforms while investigations continue.
According to the GRA, the suspension followed an internal review that identified suspected financial irregularities. The findings were subsequently referred to the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), which has taken over the criminal investigation.
The case escalated after the FCC arrested the director of Bet 593 Ltd and filed provisional charges of money laundering under the Financial Crimes Commission Act 2023. Authorities allege the offences may involve breaches of several provisions relating to illicit financial flows and financial crime controls.
The GRA said the suspension is a precautionary regulatory measure intended to prevent any continuation of potentially illegal financial activity while the criminal investigation proceeds. The action effectively shuts down the operator’s main revenue channels, as sports betting and horse racing constitute the core of its business model.
Bet 593 Ltd entered the Mauritian gambling market recently after obtaining its licence around mid-2025. The operator boosted its public profile shortly after launch by sponsoring the Bicentenary Cup at the Mauritius Turf Club Junior Centre (MTCJC).
As of the latest update, Bet 593 Ltd has not issued a public statement regarding the suspension or the charges against its director. The investigation remains ongoing, and the FCC will determine whether formal prosecution or additional enforcement actions will follow. Until a decision is reached, the operator remains barred from offering any gambling services in Mauritius.
