Mauritius gambling authority approves six horse racing trainer licences

The horse racing club and gambling authority are preparing for a strong, well-regulated racing season.

Mauritius.- Horse racing in Mauritius has received a significant boost, with six trainer licences officially approved by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), promising a stronger and more competitive season ahead.

The announcement from the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC), incorporating the Jockey Club, came hot on the heels of the GRA’s Board meeting held this month. The development marks a critical step toward the sport’s much-anticipated return and sets the stage for a new chapter in horse racing.

Now excitement is building for the racing season set to kick off at the Champ de Mars Racecourse this year. The MTC expressed its strong commitment to a well-regulated and vibrant racing season ahead.

“As we move closer to the official reopening of the 2025 racing season the MTC reiterates its full support for a fair, dynamic and well regulated racing environment,” the MTC said in a statement.

The first approvals mark an important milestone in restoring horse racing to its place on Mauritius’ sporting calendar. They also reflect the GRA’s strong commitment to transparency and professionalism.

Trainer licences pave the way

The GRA has named the six approved trainers as Ramapatee Gujadhur, Subiraj Gujadhur, Vincent Allet, Preetam Daby, Vicky Ruhee and Carl Hewitson.

They have successfully met all stringent regulatory requirements. These include the submission of full documentation and thorough verification of the origin of their funds.

Meanwhile, the MTC also confirmed that seven additional applications are still under careful assessment with licences expected to be issued soon.

With both the MTC and GRA backing the field, Mauritius is racing full speed toward an exciting and professionally run 2025 season.
