LSLGA celebrates rising athletes under youth sports initiative

At the recently concluded National Youth Sports Championship held in Delta State, two athletes from Lagos Island Local Government clinched a gold and a bronze medal competing for Team Lagos.

Nigeria.- The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Are, has commended the recent global successes of young athletes under its youth sports development programmes. In a statement released on September 10, the Authority noted that it is investing in young grassroots talent by providing essential resources such as uniforms, gym equipment and logistical support.

At the recently concluded National Youth Sports Championship held in Delta State, two athletes from Lagos Island Local Government clinched a gold and a bronze medal competing for Team Lagos. The state topped the gold medal count with 38 wins and secured second place overall in the medal standings with a total of 72 medals. State officials say that the performance reflects careful planning, resource allocation and efforts to discover and support athletic talent.

The LSLGA highlighted the Lagos Youth Tennis Tournament, held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, as evidence of its successful youth sports initiative, noting that the event features the top 100 African-ranked players. The regulator also pointed to an international initiative that yielded impressive results. Three years ago, it sponsored a friendly football match between Lagos and Morocco’s youth teams, which paved the way for two Lagos players to secure professional contracts in Portugal.

Bashir noted that these achievements emphasise the importance of steady and long-term backing, as investing in youth sports can open doors to life-changing opportunities and positively impact communities.
