Limpopo Gambling Board holds responsible gambling awareness session for Exxaro employees
Employees were advised to set spending limits.
South Africa.- The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) has conducted a responsible gambling awareness session for employees of Exxaro Resources’ Lephalale operation during the company’s Employee Wellness Day, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce gambling-related harm through workplace education.
The engagement focused on responsible gambling practices, helping employees understand how to gamble safely, recognise the warning signs of problem gambling and access support services when needed.
The board also highlighted the potential financial, social and psychological consequences of excessive gambling, encouraging participants to view gambling as a form of entertainment rather than a source of income. Employees were advised to set spending limits, avoid gambling with money intended for essential expenses and seek help if gambling begins to negatively affect their personal or professional lives.
As part of the programme, the regulator promoted the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation’s counselling services, including its toll-free helpline and WhatsApp support, which provide confidential assistance to individuals experiencing gambling-related problems.
The board also encouraged employees and members of the public to report suspected illegal gambling activities to the relevant authorities, such as the South African Police Service.
The workplace engagement aligns with the regulator’s responsible gambling initiatives, which aim to promote safer gambling behaviour and support compliance with South Africa’s gambling laws through education and outreach in the province.
