Liberian Senate confirms Peter Solo as NLA Director General

In his new role, Solo will be responsible for implementing policies, managing operations and ensuring the integrity of the NLA.

Liberia.- The Liberian Senate has approved the appointment of Peter Solo as Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) in a unanimous vote during its 41st day sitting of the 2nd session held on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Solo was earlier nominated this month for the position by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. A seasoned politician and Unity Party member, Solo served as Grand Gedeh County superintendent for six years before being succeeded by Kai Farley in 2018. A year before leaving the role, Solo was awarded the title of Grand Knight Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in acknowledgement of his outstanding performance as a local government official during her tenure.

Solo is among the latest nominees appointed by President Boakai across multiple government agencies. In a statement from the Executive Mansion, the President expressed optimism about the nominees’ potential to contribute to the country’s progress and urged the Senate to swiftly confirm them to support the administration’s reform and development agenda.

Solo replaces Reginald Kpan Nagbe, the current Director General of the NLA, whose tenure expires this month. Nagbe was appointed by former President George Manneh Weah in July 2022.

In his new role, Solo will be responsible for implementing policies, managing operations and ensuring the integrity of the NLA. His appointment is expected to bring new leadership and vision to the organisation, building on his experience and expertise in the field.

Established in 2015, the NLA is responsible for overseeing games of chance in Liberia, with a focus on generating revenue and supporting social programs that promote education and welfare for persons with disabilities.
