Liberia lottery authority extends Independence donations to Grand Bassa
The NLA said the programme demonstrates its commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens beyond its regulatory responsibilities.
Liberia.- The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has extended its Independence Day social responsibility programme to Grand Bassa County, delivering food and essential supplies to charitable institutions supporting persons with disabilities, orphaned children and elderly residents as Liberia marked its 179th Independence Day on July 26.
The latest distribution follows the authority’s earlier Independence Day donation programme launched in Montserrado County this month and forms part of its nationwide outreach to vulnerable communities.
Among the beneficiaries in Grand Bassa were God’s Children Heritage Orphanage Home, Baptist Orphanage Home, the Christian Association of the Blind, Grand Bassa School for the Deaf, Grand Bassa School for the Blind, Buchanan Safe Home under the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, and the Buchanan Old Folks Home.
The donated items included bags of rice, cooking oil, Vita Cubes, soap and other household essentials intended to help meet the daily needs of the institutions and their residents.
Presenting the donations, NLA assistant director of social welfare Helena Bobo Dour said the programme demonstrates the authority’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens beyond its regulatory responsibilities. She noted that Independence Day provides an opportunity not only to celebrate the country’s history but also to show compassion and solidarity with those facing social and economic challenges.
Dour added that caring for disadvantaged communities remains a cornerstone of the authority’s corporate social responsibility agenda, with the NLA continuing to implement initiatives that promote social welfare, inclusion and dignity while complementing the Liberian government’s broader development efforts.
Representatives of the beneficiary organisations thanked the NLA’s board and management for maintaining the annual initiative. They described the support as timely, saying the food and household supplies would help ease operational pressures and improve the daily care provided to children, older people and persons living with disabilities.
The authority said its Independence Day outreach will continue in Montserrado County, where it will complete the remaining distribution of donation packages under this year’s programme.
