LGB takes responsible gambling message to betting shops in Limpopo

The LGB’s approach includes setting up temporary tents or information centres at betting shops, providing a platform for customers to inquire about responsible gambling practices.

South Africa.- The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) has held a responsible gambling outreach at Bettabets Moratiwa, a licensed betting venue in the province, to mark Spring Day, an annual festival held every September 1.

The campaign forms part of an ongoing awareness initiative that has seen the regulator visit several licensed betting venues in its jurisdiction, including Thaba Moshte, BetSA Burgersfort and Betfred Burgersfort.

The LGB’s approach includes setting up temporary tents or information centres at the betting shops, providing a platform for customers to inquire about responsible gambling practices and receive guidance on managing their gaming activities.

In addition to attending to customers’ queries and concerns about gambling and offering personalised support, LGB staff distribute educational materials, such as brochures and posters, to raise awareness about the importance of responsible gambling and the potential risks associated with excessive gaming.

Through the initiative, the LGB aims to reduce stigma around discussing gambling-related issues, encouraging open engagement. The regulator also seeks to fulfil its broader mandate of regulating the gambling industry in Limpopo Province and ensuring a safe and fair environment for all stakeholders.

As South Africa prepares for the Responsible Gambling Summit in November 2025, such initiatives highlight efforts to balance industry growth with public welfare. The LGB’s presence at betting shops also underscores the collaborative effort between regulators and operators to ensure safer gaming practices and adherence to regulatory standards.

Beyond community outreaches, the LGB is carrying out enforcement actions against unlicensed gaming operations to protect players and gambling revenue. In July 2025, the board, in conjunction with several authorities, destroyed hundreds of illegal gambling machines confiscated across the province.
