Nigeria.- Nigeria’s Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has called for greater collaboration among governments, gaming operators, civil society organisations, technology providers and researchers to strengthen player protection and advance responsible gaming across Africa.

Bashir Are, LSLGA chief executive, made the call during the Responsible Gaming Symposium, organised by Gamble Alert and held in Lagos on June 11. Speaking during a panel titled “The Future of Responsible Gaming in Africa: Strengthening Regulatory Oversight for Player Protection”, Are stressed that player protection cannot be achieved by regulators alone and urged the wider public to adopt a “See Something, Say Something” approach by reporting harmful practices, particularly cases involving underage access to gaming facilities.

Are also commended Gamble Alert for its responsible gaming advocacy, describing the organisation as a watchdog whose efforts continue to promote awareness, accountability and consumer protection across the industry.

The symposium was held under the theme “Building Accountability: Strengthening Africa’s Model for Player Protection” and brought together regulators, operators, policymakers and industry experts to discuss practical strategies for advancing consumer safeguards and sustainable gaming practices across Africa.

Reaffirming its commitment to responsible gaming, LSLGA said: “At LSLGA, we remain committed to fostering a gaming environment that is safe, responsible, transparent, and aligned with global best practices. Together, through collaboration and shared accountability, we can strengthen player protection and ensure the long-term sustainability of Africa’s gaming industry.”
