Kenya National Lottery Board updates government on operationalisation plans
The Board says it is laying the foundations for a credible and accountable lottery focused on public benefit and good causes.
Kenya.- Kenya’s National Lottery Board (NLB) chairperson Dr Farida Karoney and Board members briefed senior government officials on the Board’s milestones and the road ahead as preparations for the National Lottery continue.
The briefing was held with the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services and the Principal Secretary for Culture, the Arts and Heritage. The Board said the meeting gave the Ministry’s leadership an opportunity to receive an update on progress towards implementing its mandate.
NLB said: “The National Lottery Board continues to advance its operationalisation, laying the foundations for a National Lottery that serves the public benefit.”
Established under the National Lottery Act, 2023, the Board is responsible for establishing, overseeing and safeguarding the National Lottery.
The development comes as the Board advances preparations to appoint Kenya’s first National Lottery operator. In August, the NLB appointed an RSM Eastern Africa-led consortium, including Sweden-based QLOT Consulting, as Transaction Adviser to guide the procurement process through operator onboarding and launch readiness.
The Board said it wants to build a credible and accountable institution that earns public trust and supports good causes across Kenya. This will include youth and economic empowerment, sports, arts, culture, emergency response and national projects. It thanked the Ministry for its support and said it would keep Kenyans updated as work on the National Lottery continues.
The future operator will be licensed within the Gambling Regulatory Authority’s framework while remaining contractually accountable to the NLB, reflecting the separate roles of the two institutions.
