Guinea National Lottery targets digital growth with online betting, cybersecurity
LONAGUI says the shift towards digital gambling will require stronger online platforms, tighter cybersecurity and greater national control over technology and financial flows.
Guinea.- Guinea’s National Lottery (LONAGUI) has outlined three priorities for its digital transformation: modernising its offering, strengthening cybersecurity and maintaining national control over technology and financial flows.
LONAGUI said West Africa was experiencing an “unprecedented digital revolution”, driven by the widespread use of smartphones and Mobile Money. It said the gambling and sports betting industry was also being transformed, with today’s gambler demanding speed, accessibility and a seamless user experience.
“Digital technology is a formidable vector of innovation, provided that it is put at the service of a controlled and highly secure environment,” said LONAGUI.
The lottery said the first priority was the modernisation of its offering, including high-performance online platforms such as LonaguiBet and virtual games adapted to international standards.
The second was cybersecurity, with LONAGUI highlighting the protection of personal data and the security of users’ financial transactions.
The lottery’s third priority was digital sovereignty. It said maintaining control of technologies and financial flows at national level was important “to feed the Guinean economy”.
The digitalisation strategy comes as LONAGUI continues to highlight its contribution to Guinea’s wider economy. The lottery’s website lists 8,000 points of sale, 20 agencies and 43 commercial partners, supporting 237 direct jobs and 9,000 indirect jobs through its activities. LONAGUI has also reported more than 88 socio-cultural projects supported since January 2023, with more than GNF45bn (US$5.1m) committed to the community.
