Ghana’s Gaming Commission ends Heritage Month with cooking competition

The month-long celebration aims to promote the preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage.

Ghana.- The Gaming Commission of Ghana has concluded its Heritage Month celebration with a cooking competition.

Sponsored by Africa Zone Foods, the event saw the staff of the Gaming Commission of Ghana grouped into five zones: Northern, Ashanti, Volta, Western and Southern. Each team was asked to prepare popular dishes from their respective regions and cook a dish from another zone.

The Western Zone group took the first position with their signature dishes, Tolo-beef Ankwamu and Ampesi with Abom, while the Volta Zone emerged second with Akple & Fetridetsi and Mpotompoto. 

The Northern Zone secured third place with their Tuo Zaafi with Ayoyo and Garifɔtɔ, followed by the Southern Zone in fourth with Aponkye Jollof and Otɔ, and the Asante Zone in fifth with Fufu and Aponkye Nkrakra.

The program’s judges included media personalities Captain Smart of Media General and Samuella Quartey of GTV News; highlife legend Madam Akosua Adjeipong, Kweku Quansah, deputy managing director at Huawei and Mohammed Ahmed Polo, former Accra Hearts of Oak footballer popularly known as ‘dribbling magician’.

Acting Gaming Commissioner Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo said the purpose of the month-long celebration is to promote the appreciation and preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage among staff by encouraging the use of traditional Ghanaian attire and the eating of local food.

The event was graced by the deputy minister of the interior, Hon Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, acting chief director of the ministry of the interior, Doreen Panyin Annan, and the executive secretary of the National Peace Council, Dr George Amoh.

Other notable attendees included Very Rev Dr Abraham Boateng, the director of undergraduate studies at Trinity Theological Seminary, and renowned gospel singers, The Tagoe Sisters.

An Accra-based gospel group, the Symphonials Chorale, provided music for the event.
