Ghana Football Association restricts betting odds on domestic matches
GFA President Kurt Okraku says no betting company has been licensed to offer odds on domestic games as the association moves to combat match-fixing.
Ghana.- Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has announced restrictions on betting odds for domestic football matches as the association steps up efforts to protect competitions from match-fixing.
Okraku made the announcement during the association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress in Prampram on August 20. He described the measure as a key step towards protecting the integrity of Ghana’s domestic game. “No betting company has been licensed to place odds on domestic games,” Okraku told delegates, according to ModernGhana.
The restriction applies to betting on domestic football matches, with the GFA positioning the measure within broader efforts to protect the integrity and credibility of the local game. The association believes limiting betting opportunities can reduce financial incentives for attempts to influence match outcomes.
The GFA said the policy is also intended to create a more transparent environment for clubs, players, coaches, officials and supporters while safeguarding the credibility of the Ghana Premier League.
The move comes as the GFA seeks to increase the visibility and commercial appeal of domestic football. During the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, 186 matches were produced and broadcast across multiple platforms, including 75 live broadcasts and 111 non-live telecasts. The Women’s Premier League and Division One League also benefited from expanded media coverage.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, which is scheduled to begin on September 5.
