betPawa trains 500+ staff on responsible gaming ahead of new football season
The workshop focused on giving frontline employees practical skills to recognise signs that a customer may be experiencing gambling-related difficulties and respond appropriately.
Nigeria.- Sports betting operator betPawa has completed a continent-wide training programme aimed at helping its customer support teams identify gambling-related harm as football betting activity picks up.
More than 500 support staff across the operator’s 15 African markets took part in the four-week programme, which was delivered with support from 11 clinical psychology and counselling partners.
The training focused on giving frontline employees practical skills to recognise signs that a customer may be experiencing gambling-related difficulties and respond appropriately. Staff were also trained to engage affected customers professionally and escalate cases to suitable support services.
The programme places greater emphasis on the role of customer support teams in betPawa’s responsible gaming efforts, particularly as the start of a new football season brings increased customer activity around betting.
Olamide Akingba, betPawa’s head of responsible gaming, said effective player protection requires more than policies and tools, with frontline employees also needing the knowledge and skills to support customers when concerns arise.
She noted that the operator has worked with counselling organisations across its African markets to provide access to professional support for customers who require further assistance.
Akingba concluded: “As the new football season gets underway, we are proud to know our frontline teams are ready to deliver safer customer experiences.”
