Gabon set to launch national gambling platform to boost transparency, jobs and growth
The government-backed initiative, managed by Gabonese e-Tech SAS, aims to modernise the sector, streamline oversight and create a fully transparent gambling market.
Gabon.- Gabon is set to introduce a national gambling platform aimed at modernising the sector, creating new jobs and unlocking its full economic potential. Managed by Gabonese tech firm e-Tech SAS in partnership with a Canadian company, the government-approved platform promises tighter oversight, smarter tax management and full transparency for operators.
Adopted by the Ministerial Council on September 7 and formalised through a decree, the platform will serve as a central hub for the country’s gambling operations, providing oversight and accountability across the sector.
A L’Union Gabon report stated: “The government has approved the creation of a national integrator-aggregator entrusted to the Gabonese company e-Tech SAS, as part of a public-private partnership with a Canadian partner. This platform will provide comprehensive regulation of the sector, ensure the traceability of financial flows, guarantee the payment of winnings to bettors and optimise taxation.”
The platform, once operational, will bring all operators under a single regulatory framework, track financial flows to prevent fraud, guarantee payouts and introduce modern responsible gambling tools such as age verification and addiction monitoring. Officials emphasise that the reform is designed to support, not displace existing operators, giving them time to regularise their status and align with the new standards.
The report added: “It should also create local jobs, enable better monitoring of addiction risks and protect all stakeholders.”
Transforming gambling and oversight
Gabon’s initiative is part of broader digital reforms. In September, the government introduced a legal framework to modernise public administration, enhance transparency, strengthen data security and increase participation of local private-sector firms in public tenders. By linking the gambling platform to these reforms, the country is positioning itself as a regional leader in tech-driven, well-regulated gaming.
While the framework promises significant changes, the online gambling sector remains largely unregulated, with residents still able to access foreign platforms. The Ministry of Finance and National Lottery Authority continue to oversee licensing and compliance for existing operators, ensuring that the sector remains accountable and secure.
For licensed operators and investors, this move signals a new era of transparency, growth and opportunity, establishing a competitive, modern and fully regulated gambling market in Central Africa.
