GambleAwareNG begins training for Enugu responsible gambling drive
The six-month Play Smart, Stay Safe campaign aims to reach more than 3,000 players through trained staff and volunteers in betting outlets.
Nigeria.- GambleAwareNG has started training staff and volunteers from the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Commission on responsible gambling education and player protection under the Play Smart, Stay Safe campaign, which aims to reach more than 3,000 players in its first phase.
The six-month programme was developed in partnership with the state gaming regulator to extend gambling awareness and support services to physical betting outlets across Enugu State, Nigeria. It was officially unveiled on October 8 at the Enugu State Gaming Stakeholders Forum at Gold Rhino Hotel in the state. The initiative builds on a recommendation from the 2026 Enugu Gaming Conference to extend responsible gambling education beyond digital platforms to physical betting shops.
The first phase will cover 100 gaming outlets, where trained personnel and volunteers will educate players about responsible gambling and raise awareness of gambling-related risks. As part of the campaign, the betting outlets will display responsible gambling messages and make educational resources available to customers, including information on accessing help for gambling-related problems.
The initiative places player protection alongside the commission’s broader regulatory priorities. At the October stakeholders forum, the regulator also addressed licensing, compliance, data security and the use of technology to monitor gaming operations. It also proposed a B2B supplier licensing framework that would bring software developers, gaming technology companies, equipment suppliers and platform providers serving licensed operators under its regulatory oversight. The proposal remains subject to further legal review and stakeholder consultation.
