ECGB educates Eastcape Midlands TVET College students on responsible gambling
They covered key topics, including legal frameworks for gambling and ways to avoid potential pitfalls.
South Africa.- The Eastern Cape Gambling Board (ECGB) has organised a workshop session at the Eastcape Midlands TVET College to inform students about responsible gambling and the risks associated with illegal betting activities. Held at the college’s Brickfields Road Campus on October 16, 2025, the event aligns with ongoing efforts by the ECGB and National Gambling Board (NGB) to address gambling issues in the region.
Zilungile Kwinana, the ECGB’s Public Education Officer, led the discussion alongside her team and representatives from the NGB. They covered key topics, including legal frameworks for gambling and ways to avoid potential pitfalls. Kwinana stressed the value of balance in gambling. She noted: “The goal of responsible gambling is to ensure that gaming remains an enjoyable pastime, not a harmful habit.”
Attendees were also informed about the self-exclusion programme, which allows individuals to voluntarily restrict their access to gambling platforms and venues.
The ECGB and NGB are currently collaborating on a community outreach initiative in Nelson Mandela Bay, running from October 13 to 17, 2025, which aims to educate the public about the risks of illegal online gambling while promoting responsible gambling practices. Their shared goal is to provide people, especially young adults and students, with the tools and insights needed to make thoughtful decisions.
