Casino resorts under Minor Hotels in Africa earn Green Growth certification

Avani and Anantara casino properties in Southern Africa score gold in eco-standards, proving that luxury and sustainability are a winning pair.

South Africa.- In a powerful move for sustainability and gaming, Minor Hotels has clinched Green Growth 2050 certification for several of its Southern Africa properties, many of which double as casino destinations.

The globally recognised Green Growth certification is a benchmark for sustainability. And Gold-level status was awarded to multiple Minor Hotels resorts including three of its casino-linked properties: Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino, Avani Windhoek Hotel & Casino and Avani Lesotho Hotel & Casino.

The certification signals a rising trend of eco-consciousness in the sector and reaffirms the group’s environmental leadership.

Zero emission by 2050

As the global conversation around sustainable travel gains momentum, Minor Hotels is raising the stakes. The group has set Gold certification as the baseline for all its Anantara and Avani properties, reinforcing its goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

“The Green Growth 2050 certifications reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainability across our Southern Africa properties and beyond,” said Lindi Mthethwa, Regional Director Sales & Marketing at Minor Hotels.

“Achieving five Gold and one Silver certification highlights the focus we’ve placed on reducing carbon emissions, promoting responsible resource use and engaging local communities as an intrinsic part of our operations.”

The certified Southern African properties include:

  • Avani Windhoek Hotel & Casino – Gold
  • Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino – Gold
  • The Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel by Anantara – Gold
  • Avani Victoria Falls Resort – Gold
  • Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort – Gold
  • Avani Lesotho Hotel & Casino and Avani Maseru Hotel – Silver

Casino properties become eco-luxury experiences

The achievement marks a key milestone for the group’s casino and resort portfolio, where high-stakes entertainment now meets high-impact sustainability. From locally sourced cuisine to waste-reduction initiatives and energy-efficient operations, Minor Hotels is transforming its casino properties into eco-luxury experiences.

“Sustainability and luxury can go hand in hand,” Mthethwa said.

For eco-conscious travellers and players, this is the new standard, where a green conscience is the real jackpot.
