Cabo Verde.- Cabo Verde has appointed Antónia Gomes Lopes as its new Inspector-General of Gaming, replacing José Monteiro at the helm of the country’s General Inspection of Gaming (Inspeção Geral de Jogos, IGJ). Gomes Lopes was appointed by the Office of the Prime Minister to lead the government gaming regulator and supervisory authority.
The appointment was made through Order No. 30/2026. The order was published in Official Gazette No. 192, Series II, on October 7. Gomes Lopes was appointed under a contract that became effective on October 1, 2026.
The order states, in translation: “Antónia Gomes Lopes, with a degree in Law, is appointed to exercise the functions of Inspector-General of Gaming, through a Management Contract.”
The IGJ oversees a range of regulated gaming activities in Cabo Verde, including casinos and gaming rooms, lotteries, instant scratch cards as well as sports betting and number betting.
Gomes Lopes replaces Monteiro, whose management contract as Inspector-General of Gaming was terminated under Order No. 29/2026, published in the same edition of the Official Gazette.
