Cabo Verde gaming chief takes office as government calls for integrity
The government has urged new public officials to demonstrate transparency, impartiality and commitment in their work.
Cabo Verde.- Cabo Verde’s new Inspector-General of Gaming, Antónia Gomes Lopes, formally took office on October 23, with the government outlining its expectations for the oversight of the country’s gambling sector. Tourism Secretary of State Pimenta Lima said the role requires rigour, integrity and impartiality.
Cabo Verde’s General Inspection of Gaming oversees regulated activities including casinos, gaming rooms, lotteries, instant scratch cards, sports betting and number betting.
At Lopes’ inauguration, Lima said the gaming inspector-general’s role requires “a sense of justice”, according to Inforpress. He also called on the new officials to work together towards a more organised, competitive and equitable country.
Cabo Verde Prime Minister Francisco Carvalho, who attended the ceremony, urged the incoming institutional leaders to improve on the work carried out by their predecessors.
Lopes’ appointment was formalised through Order No. 30/2026, published in the Official Gazette on October 7. Her management contract took effect on October 1. A separate order published in the same edition terminated the contract of her predecessor, José Cardoso Monteiro.
