Botswana’s Gambling Authority channels betting revenue into Christmas community support
The GA Social Club delivers holiday gifts and spreads festive cheer at children’s home, highlighting the positive social impact of regulated gambling.
Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority (GA) Social Club brought festive cheer to children at the Lorato House Children’s Care and Rescue Centre, handing out Christmas presents and spending time with the young residents. The Authority’s seasonal outreach highlighted its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and engagement with communities across the country.
The initiative in Maun, a town in northwestern Botswana, showcased how the Authority connects with local communities beyond its regulatory role.
Tumelo Batshu, Chairman of the GA Social Club, emphasised the importance of giving back. “Today, we celebrate the spirit of Christmas and the meaningful impact we can have when we come together as a community,” Batshu said. “It is a privilege to share moments of connection and joy with the children at Lorato House.”
Kutlo Mokgosana, Chief Strategy Officer of the GA, expressed his happiness over the Social Club’s efforts in making the handover possible. He highlighted the Authority’s role in the community and stressed the need for continued support for Lorato House in the future.
Gambling revenue for community good
The outreach also demonstrates how regulated gambling in Botswana generates positive social impact. The GA is funded primarily through licensing fees, levies and contributions from licensed gambling operators, including casinos, sportsbooks, lotteries and gaming companies.
A portion of these funds is directed toward community programs and charitable initiatives, such as this festive gift handover. By channeling gambling revenue into tangible support for local causes, the Authority shows that regulated gambling can benefit communities while promoting responsible gambling.
The initiative coincides with the GA’s 10th anniversary, marking a decade of the Authority’s work in responsible gambling, social responsibility, and community engagement.
Through activities like this, the Gambling Authority illustrates that the gambling sector can play a constructive role in society, using industry resources to create real-world benefits while spreading festive cheer.
