Botswana gambling chief calls for more investments in gaming sector
Acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale reminded participants about the potential economic benefits of a regulated gaming industry, citing its capacity to create jobs and increase government revenue.
Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority has highlighted regulated gambling as a potential catalyst for economic growth on the first day of the inaugural Botswana Economic Forum 2025, held on November 18 at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC).
Speaking at the event, acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale reminded participants about the potential economic benefits of a regulated gaming industry, citing its capacity to create jobs and increase government revenue through licensed casinos, betting houses and gaming platforms.
Kemorwale noted that the global gaming industry is expected to generate $188bn this year and encouraged Botswana to position itself to capture a share of this market through responsible gaming regulation.
He called on more Botswana investors to capitalise on the industry’s opportunities by applying for licences to operate revenue-generating activities such as limited payout machines, SMS competitions and virtual digital games.
The Botswana Economic Forum convened leaders, investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs and industry innovators from more than 20 countries. The meeting’s resolutions will play a key role in shaping future economic strategies and influencing the country’s growth path as it works towards achieving its Vision 2036 goals.
