Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority has highlighted the role of internal audit in strengthening governance, accountability and operational resilience across the gambling sector during Internal Auditors Awareness Month.

Botswana Gambling Authority chief internal auditor Mbati Lebang participated in the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana Chief Audit Executives Breakfast Session held on May 6 at Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel and Convention Centre in Gaborone.

Lebang participated in a panel discussion titled “Governing In Uncertainty – The Strategic Role of Internal Audit in Building Resilient Organisations”. Held under the theme “Navigating Uncertainty: Strengthening Governance in an Evolving World”, the breakfast session focused on governance, risk management and organisational resilience.

Lebang said: “Today we graced the Institute of Internal Auditors chief audit executives Breakfast Seminar, which is an annual event that attracts chief executive officers, audit committee chairpersons and chief audit executives from a wide range of organisations within Botswana. As the Chief Audit Executive of the Gambling Authority, I took part in a panel discussion discussing uncertainty and how organisations can govern through this uncertainty.”

Lebang added that the event was organised in collaboration with the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana, which is celebrating 30 years this year. “As you would know, the month of May is the Institute of Internal Auditors Awareness Month and there will be a number of activities to celebrate this event,” he said.

The Botswana Gambling Authority was also listed among sponsors of the event, which formed part of broader Internal Auditors Awareness Month activities. The Authority described the breakfast session as “an insightful morning” focused on maintaining governance during uncertain times, adding that discussions had challenged participants “to move the audit industry forward”.
