Botswana Gambling Authority moves towards next phase of bingo and casino licensing
Botswana’s Gambling Authority has issued an EOI seeking investor interest in proposed bingo and casino developments.
Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority is moving towards the next phase of its strategic bingo and casino licensing process, issuing an Expression of Interest (EOI) to attract qualified investors.
The EOI invites investors to outline their experience and capacity to develop and operate bingo and casino establishments in the country. The Botswana Gambling Authority said in its EOI notice: “This call for Expressions of Interest is intended to assess the level of investor interest and identify prospective investors with the capacity and experience to develop and operate Bingo and Casino establishments in Botswana.”
The proposed casino locations are Central District, Maun and Kasane/Pandamatenga, while bingo opportunities are proposed across the Central, Kweneng, Kgatleng, North-East, South-East, Southern, Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, North-West and Chobe districts.
Established under Botswana’s Gambling Act, 2012, the Gambling Authority is seeking information from interested parties on their company and ownership structures, as well as their experience in gambling, hospitality, tourism, leisure or property development.
Investors are required to outline their proposed development concept and preferred location, indicative investment and funding arrangements, anticipated implementation timeframe, and financial and technical capacity to undertake the proposed development.
The Authority is also seeking information on the anticipated economic benefits of proposed developments, including employment creation and citizen participation. Investors are asked to indicate potential citizen shareholding, board and management representation and employment opportunities for Botswana citizens.
The notice states that the proposed districts have been subdivided in accordance with the approved Licensing and Location Plan. The Authority states that an EOI submission does not constitute a licence application or a Request for Applications, does not guarantee participation in any future licensing process and does not create an entitlement or expectation that a licence will be issued.
The Authority also reserves the right to amend, suspend or withdraw the EOI at any time. Interested parties must submit their EOI and supporting documentation electronically to [email protected] by 3pm on October 16, 2026.
