Botswana Gambling Authority publishes new list of licensed betting operators
Only six betting operators are currently authorised to offer betting services in Botswana.
Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority has issued a public notice identifying the betting operators currently licensed and operational in the country, while warning residents against using unregulated gambling websites.
According to the regulator, only six betting operators are currently authorised to offer betting services in Botswana. The licensed companies and their trading brands are Sunbet Botswana (Pty) Ltd, operating as Sunbet; PstBet Botswana (Pty) Ltd, as PstBet; Mecaville Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, operating Bet 267; Delta Bay (Pty) Ltd, as Betway; SNB Investments (Botswana) (Pty) Ltd, as BBets; and Direct Wholesale (Pty) Ltd, trading as BetXplosion.
The Authority said the publication of the list is intended to help consumers identify legitimate betting providers and make informed decisions when participating in betting activities.
In its notice, the regulator cautioned the public against placing bets on websites that are not licensed in Botswana, noting that such platforms may expose users to significant financial risks.
The Authority warned that people who engage with unlicensed operators could become victims of fraud and may lose money without any possibility of recovering their funds. It stressed that consumers should verify whether a betting operator is licensed before opening accounts or depositing money.
The regulator said that licensed operators are subject to oversight designed to promote fair gaming practices and safeguard customer interests.
The Gambling Authority also encouraged bettors to gamble responsibly by treating betting as a form of entertainment rather than a source of income. Players should only wager money they can afford to lose, set spending limits and seek support if gambling begins to negatively affect their finances, work or personal relationships.
