Betway SA20 and Absa Bank renew three-year partnership to elevate cricket

The betting giant Betway and pan-African banking powerhouse Absa join forces again, bringing bigger cash prizes and interactive stadium activations to South Africa’s T20 cricket league.

South Africa.- Betway SA20, South Africa’s premier professional cricket league, just got even more thrilling as Absa announces a new three-year partnership as the official banking partner. Betway is ramping up fan engagement in the league, with activations like the Absa Card Play of the Day offering instant cash prizes at every match.

The new multi-year deal builds on a successful inaugural collaboration in Season 3, where Absa engaged fans across 34 matches, bringing rewards and excitement directly to stadium-goers, while the league’s Twenty20 (T20) format of 20 overs per side delivers nonstop, high-energy cricket action that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.

League Commissioner Graeme Smith said: “We are proud to announce a new three-year partnership with Absa, a trusted household name in South Africa and across the continent. This partnership follows an incredibly successful inaugural partnership with Absa in Season 3, where they provided endless entertainment for the fans at the stadiums.”

He added that Absa’s “values of innovation, entertainment and fan-first inclusivity” align strongly with SA20’s vision of being the No.1 sport and entertainment brand in South Africa.

Absa card play back in action

Fans can look forward to the return of the Absa Card Play of the Day, an activation that allows Absa cardholders to win instant cash at every match. Last season, participants had the chance to win up to R100,000 per game, with one lucky cardholder taking home R200,000 at the final.

The promotion combines the thrill of sport with the excitement of instant rewards, adding a betting-adjacent element that appeals to cricket fans across the country.

Sydney Mbhele, Absa Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, described the renewed partnership as “more than just sponsorship”, emphasising the bank’s focus on creating memorable moments for fans. In-stadium activations will give fans opportunities to sign up for Absa accounts, participate in competitions and engage in interactive experiences.

The SA20 2025 season kicks off on December 26 and runs through to January 25 2026, offering a month-long festival of cricket, entertainment and fan engagement, with Betway at the heart of the action.

With this renewed partnership, Betway strengthens its profile as a betting giant, linking its brand to one of South Africa’s most dynamic sporting leagues. Together with Absa, the league is poised to deliver not only thrilling cricket but also interactive fan experiences that reward engagement, innovation and excitement.
