Betway pledges P1.32m to celebrate Botswana’s World-Champion sprinter and national team

Betting giant backs Kebinatshipi and Botswana athletics team after historic Tokyo World Championships Triumph.

Botswana.- Betway has pledged P1.32m (€80,500) to Busang Collen Kebinatshipi and the Botswana national team following their historic performance at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo.

The 21-year-old Kebinatshipi stormed to gold in the 400m with a world-leading 43.51-second run, then powered Botswana to a historic 4x400m relay gold, a first ever for the African continent. The country finished the championships with two golds and a bronze, cementing its status as a dominant force in the 400m.

The prize money distribution highlights the leading sports betting brand’s commitment to celebrating every member of the team. Gold medallists each received P100,000 (€6,100), while the bronze medallist was awarded P70,000 (€4,270). Finalists received P50,000 (€3,050) each, semi-finalists P45,000 (€2,750) each and reserves P40,000 (€2,440) each. The head coach received P35,000 (€2,140), assistant coaches and technical staff P25,000 (€1,525) each and medical and administrative staff P20,000 (€1,220) each.

She added that Kebinatshipi is one of four recipients of the Betway Cares foundation, alongside Chedza Julius, Gloria Majaga and Edwin Masuge.

Betway will host Kebinatshipi at their Gaborone offices to celebrate his achievement and the nation’s pride.
