Betway Botswana engages media on vision and key gaming issues
Betway said it’s important that people hear directly from them and not just via social media reports.
Botswana.- Betway Botswana has highlighted its role in driving Botswana’s progress and economic growth.
The company stressed this at a media event it recently hosted at its Gaborone offices, where it walked journalists through its mission and vision for Botswana’s sports development.
According to Betway, Botswana represents more than just a market; it is a thriving community that values sports and responsible gaming.
Discussions at the event centred around key issues, such as responsible gaming initiatives, the media’s role in storytelling and Betway’s potential to support Botswana’s economic diversification.
Betway Botswana country manager Michelle France-Mabiletsa said: “Today’s session was about engaging with the media. We’re building relationships because we are new in Botswana. We wanted to introduce ourselves, share our background, and explain who we are. We hope journalists will help us educate the public.”
Betway received a licence to operate in Botswana from the gambling authority in October 2024. In March 2025, the sportsbook started fully accepting bets in the country.
France-Mabiletsa said: “Many Batswana have registered on our platform. But we want to ensure people bet responsibly, we’re advocating for betting as a form of entertainment, not something that leads to financial difficulty. Use small amounts and treat it as a hobby.”
The media chat comes days after bettors criticised the company and other new sportsbooks on social media for repeated system crashes that hindered their betting experience. At the time, Betway acknowledged the technical issues and confirmed that they had been resolved.
France-Mabiletsa further clarified the brand’s identity for the Batswana public. She said: “It’s important that people hear directly from us, not just via social media reports. Members of the public are welcome to visit us and ask questions. Our systems have been running smoothly since day one, and customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”
She also revealed that Betway Botswana is close to securing sponsorship agreements that will support and boost local sports.
At the event, attendees were allowed to engage with Betway’s customer experience centre through interactive tablets and live demonstrations. Another highlight was the grandstand arena, where guests experienced live sports on a giant screen in a stadium-like setting.
