betPawa launches US$51.9k grassroots football support in Kenya

The initiative will benefit at least 575 players drawn from men’s and women’s teams.

Kenya.- Kenyan betting company betPawa has launched a Ksh6.7m (US$51.9k) football support programme aimed at providing playing kits and training gear to 25 community teams across the country.

The initiative will benefit at least 575 players drawn from men’s and women’s teams competing in local football structures. According to the company, the support package includes full match kits for every registered player, alongside training and match equipment designed to reduce operational costs for grassroots clubs.

The donation includes jerseys, shorts and socks for all players, 100 match balls, 575 training bibs and 75 pairs of goalkeeper gloves. The teams receiving the equipment are based in different parts of Kenya, with some participating in regional and community leagues.

Among the clubs listed as beneficiaries are Maungu All Stars FC, Majengo FC, Mwendo FC, Kisii Wazee FC, Kapkorech Starlet, St Josephus Nakuru, Maringo United, Masimba Queens, Lugusi FC, Youngboys FC, Livewire FC and Kibagare Girls FC.

The programme forms part of betPawa’s wider sports investment activities in African markets where the company operates betting services. Grassroots football in Kenya has continued to face funding gaps, with many clubs relying on player contributions and local fundraising to cover basic expenses such as uniforms, transport and training materials.

Speaking during the handover event, betPawa Kenya head of local marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR), Borah Ndanyungu, said the company’s focus was on supporting players competing outside the top professional leagues.

The betting operator said that women’s football teams account for a significant share of the beneficiaries, continuing its policy of including female athletes in sports funding programmes. The company has previously promoted equal reward systems through its Locker Room Bonus initiative, under which men’s and women’s teams receive equal performance bonuses following victories.

Kenya’s betting industry has increasingly expanded into sports sponsorship and football development as operators seek greater visibility through community-based projects and league partnerships. Analysts say such programmes also help betting firms strengthen brand presence while contributing to talent development structures that often receive limited institutional funding.
