Betika boosts African football with $325K CECAFA Kagame Cup investment

Betting powerhouse backs 12 countries in East and Central Africa, driving excitement, higher stakes and wider fan engagement.

Tanzania.- Betika is making a major move for regional football, injecting $325,000 (KSh42m) into the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup 2025/26 as the tournament’s official sponsor. The investment is set to benefit clubs and fans across 12 countries, boosting competition, fan engagement and the overall profile of football in the region.

The CECAFA Kagame Cup unites teams from Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zanzibar, and will take place in Tanzania from September 2 to 15.

The sponsorship was unveiled on August 28 at the Pan Pacific Suites in Nairobi, Kenya, marking a new chapter for East and Central African football. Betika’s Group CEO, Mutua Mutava, confirmed the major deal.

“Today, we announce a landmark sponsorship of 42 million Kenya shillings for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, cementing Betika’s place as official sponsor of this prestigious tournament for the 2025/2026 season,” said Mutava, according to the CECAFA website.

Reflecting on the deal, he added: “This is not just a sponsorship. It is a statement of belief in the power of football to unite, inspire and transform communities.”

The deal gives Betika premium exposure across CECAFA platforms, including in-stadium branding and digital campaigns designed to engage millions of fans across the region.

CECAFA Vice President Paulos Andemariam, who signed the agreement alongside Mutava, also welcomed the sponsorship.

He said: “We are pleased to enter a partnership with Betika. With Betika joining as the official sponsor, we are taking this great tournament into a new era. This partnership reflects the power of collaboration between football and the private sector, and it demonstrates the confidence that a leading brand like Betika has in the value and potential of CECAFA competitions.”
