Angola strengthens gambling sector with benchmarking visit to Benin
ISJ studies Benin’s licensing, supervision and automation systems to modernise Angola’s gambling oversight and improve operational efficiency.
Angola.- Angola’s Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) has taken a major step to modernise the country’s gambling sector with a benchmarking mission in Benin. The delegation studied best practices in regulation, licensing and supervision, including Benin’s Gambling Sector Supervision Unit (CSSJ) and its centralised system and automation tools that strengthen oversight and support public revenue.
The insights will guide Angola in transforming its gambling sector, making it safer, more efficient and sustainable, and highlight the country’s commitment to transparency, accountability and effective regulation.
The ISJ said: “This initiative reinforces ISJ’s commitment to adopting international best practices, contributing to the development of an increasingly modern, sustainable and efficient gaming sector in Angola.”
The delegation was led by Director General Nerethz Tati and included Fernando Costa, Head of the Department of Support to the Director General; Mauro Pascoal, Head of the Department of Human Resources and Information Technologies; and Nilton Rafael, technician from the Department of Information Technologies. The team conducted the four-day visit from November 24 to 28.
Learning from Benin’s model
During the mission, the delegation met Nicolas Ndiaye, General Coordinator of CSSJ, for a productive working session focused on exchanging experiences and deepening knowledge of gambling regulation and supervision.
The ISJ added: “The meeting allowed the delegation to learn firsthand about the Beninese licensing model and the mechanisms used to ensure greater control and transparency in the sector.”
The delegation also explored how Benin’s systems improve operational control and enhance public revenue collection. These insights will guide Angola’s ISJ as it continues to modernise its gambling sector.
The benchmarking visit reflects Angola’s broader commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability and oversight in its gambling industry while learning from regional partners to build a more effective regulatory framework.
