Algeria teams up with Epic Games to boost Fortnite for local players
Partnership with Algérie Telecom promises smoother gameplay and underscores Africa’s rising digital gaming scene.
Algeria.- Algeria is taking a major step to improve online gaming for its players. Epic Games, the developer behind the global hit game Fortnite, is in talks with Algérie Telecom to optimise servers, reduce lag and enhance the digital experience for Algerian gamers.
Algerian Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Zerrouki, said: “I’ve noticed the widespread interest in Fortnite. Epic Games, in collaboration with Algerie Telecom, has contacted us. We are exploring ways to provide a better and safer digital experience for Algerian users, promoting trust, balance and enjoyable digital entertainment for all.”
The partnership comes amid widespread connectivity challenges. Since early October 2025, Algerian players have reported login issues, high latency and intermittent server access, sometimes relying on VPNs to play, although this often worsens lag.
Epic Games identified the issues as routing problems with Algérie Telecom and reached out to the government after failing to resolve them directly, according to the Daily Horizon. The gaming community has been vocal online, posting memes that highlight the problem and demonstrating the high level of engagement and frustration among players.
A DZWatch report states: “This development suggests that Epic Games is actively working to address the specific needs and challenges faced by Fortnite players in Algeria. Potential improvements could include reduced latency, better server connectivity and optimised data transfer.”
Beyond immediate gameplay, this collaboration underscores Africa’s growing role in the digital entertainment sector. By improving infrastructure and connectivity, Algeria is not only helping its players enjoy global online games but also positioning itself as a hub for gaming innovation and esports across the continent.
