ALGA unveils Women in Gaming and Lotteries Africa leadership team to boost female industry representation

Four senior appointments mark the next phase of WIGLA’s expansion as ALGA strengthens women’s leadership, CSR and stakeholder engagement across Africa’s gaming and lotteries sector.

Kenya.- The African Lotteries and Gaming Association (ALGA) has formally confirmed four senior leadership appointments within its Women in Gaming and Lotteries Africa (WIGLA) initiative, marking the next phase of the platform’s expansion across Africa’s gaming and lotteries sector.

ALGA said the appointments represent “more than a structural milestone”, describing them as a deliberate step toward strengthening the presence, influence and leadership of women within the industry across Africa and globally.

In early April ALGA officially unveiled WIGLA as part of a broader effort to improve female leadership, mentorship and visibility across Africa’s regulated gaming and lottery sector. The platform was positioned around the theme of moving “from inclusion to influence” with a focus on creating stronger leadership pathways and long-term representation for women across the industry.

The association confirmed the appointment of Annalisa Samuels as Chief Executive Officer, Shirley Tallam as Group Secretariat, Lucy Mwendwa as Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Investment, and Judith Kgoroba as Head of Events and Stakeholder Relations.

Leadership, impact and inclusion

ALGA said the new leadership team would help shape WIGLA’s operations, strengthen stakeholder engagement and expand its long-term impact across the continent. The organisation said: “These appointments mark more than a structural milestone; they represent a deliberate and strategic step toward strengthening the presence, influence and leadership of women within the gaming and lotteries sector across Africa and globally.”

The appointments reflect WIGLA’s pan-African reach, with leadership representation linked to countries including Kenya, South Africa and Botswana, reinforcing ALGA’s goal of strengthening women’s leadership across Africa’s gaming and lotteries sector.

ALGA added: “We are intentional about ‘mothering’ the continent – championing initiatives that nurture, empower, and create sustainable opportunities for growth, particularly for the youth.”

ALGA said the newly appointed leaders would also help drive broader socio-economic development through community-focused initiatives, while setting a stronger benchmark for inclusive and purpose-driven leadership within gaming and lotteries.

With the leadership structure now formally confirmed, WIGLA enters its next phase as ALGA looks to translate its vision into measurable operational impact across the continent.
