ALA lifts Africa’s lottery sector into global spotlight in 2026
Morocco summit and cross-continental collaboration highlight growing global engagement for African lotteries.
Morocco.- Africa’s lottery sector is gaining greater visibility on the international stage in 2026, with the African Lotteries Association (ALA) playing an increasingly active role in cross-continental collaboration.
The shift will be on display in June, when Morocco hosts the European Lotteries (EL) Industry Days 2026 in Marrakech, bringing together stakeholders from across Africa and Europe under the theme “Lotteries Bridging Continents”. The event, scheduled for June 7 to 10, is supported by the ALA and will serve as a platform for dialogue on shared challenges and industry innovation.
According to the European Lotteries, the gathering is designed to “share ideas, best practices and innovation across borders”, reflecting a growing emphasis on cooperation between established and emerging lottery markets.
Romana Girandon, President of the European Lotteries, said: “Connecting Europe and Africa is a unique opportunity to address our shared priorities, leveraging new technologies and confronting irresponsible and illegal practices.”
The ALA’s involvement in the Marrakech event underscores its role in supporting stronger links between African lottery operators and global industry networks. While the association remains a non-regulatory body, it continues to provide a platform for coordination, knowledge sharing and engagement across markets.
Beyond international events, the organisation has also signalled a continued focus on capacity building. Following its 2025 strategy discussions, the ALA outlined plans to expand training programmes, governance seminars and technical workshops for member organisations, with topics expected to include cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
Together, these developments point to a sector that is becoming more outward-facing, as African lottery stakeholders increase participation in global conversations around innovation, integrity and responsible gaming.
The ALA’s continued involvement in international initiatives highlights how the continent’s lottery market is strengthening its presence within the global industry.
