African lotteries partner with retail stores to make tickets more accessible
From Angola to Morocco, national lotteries are teaming up with supermarkets and convenience stores to expand ticket access for players.
Angola.- National lotteries across Africa are increasingly partnering with retail stores to make ticket purchases and participation in draws more accessible to players nationwide. Angola, South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco are leading the trend by integrating lottery services into everyday shopping locations, expanding access for citizens nationwide.
The National Lottery of Angola (Lotaria Nacional de Angola) has joined forces with Kibabo, one of the country’s biggest supermarket chains. This collaboration allows residents to purchase tickets and access lottery information directly at the supermarket, combining daily shopping with lottery participation.
According to the National Lottery Association’s website, “the partnership enables Angolans to participate in draws and purchase tickets at locations where they already shop for everyday needs”. The organisation has upgraded its infrastructure to ensure players across Angola can easily and securely purchase tickets at any location.

South Africa’s lottery operator, ITHUBA Holdings, operates more than 9,000 retail terminals, making tickets widely available across supermarkets, convenience stores and other outlets. In 2025, ITHUBA upgraded its core technology platform, improving the efficiency of its retail operations.
ITHUBA said: “We extend our sincere appreciation to our National Lottery partners, retailers and technical vendors, whose support has been critical in allowing South Africans to continue enjoying their favourite lottery games during this significant transition.”
Retail partnerships drive lottery growth across Africa
In Nigeria, national lottery operators N1 Interactive Africa Limited and Starlight Ace Verde Gaming Ltd are each partnering with local retail stores to expand ticket distribution and reach more customers. In 2025, both companies are actively growing their retail networks, combining physical outlets with online platforms to enhance accessibility and customer engagement.
In Morocco, INTRALOT Maroc, in partnership with La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports (MDJS), continues to distribute lottery games such as Tifo and Chrono through an optimised network of retail outlets, including supermarkets, convenience stores and other authorised points of sale. The network uses existing technology infrastructures and adheres to international standards, ensuring secure and efficient ticket sales.
However not all African countries have adopted this model. Retail partnerships are mainly concentrated in nations with regulated national lotteries and sufficient technological infrastructure to ensure secure transactions. In other countries, tickets are still sold through standalone kiosks, online platforms or betting shops.
With Angola, South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco leading the way, 2025 is shaping up as a pivotal year for lottery growth through retail stores across Africa.
