Liberia.- Liberia’s recently launched 5/90 lottery game has garnered support and positive feedback from players and stakeholders nationwide.

On February 20, 2025, the National Lottery Authority (NLA) granted Blue Star Hi-Tech Liberia Limited the exclusive right to operate the 5/90 Lotto Game in Liberia.

At the time, NLA Director General Reginald Kpan Nagbe noted that the project would boost national revenue, modernize the lottery industry, and increase support for vulnerable groups through increased charitable initiatives.

In the 5/90 lotto game, players pick five numbers from 1 to 90, and the winning numbers are determined by daily draws.

In March 2025, Richlue Burphy, NLA’s deputy director general for Lotto Games, described the lottery game as a key initiative that supports the government’s rescue agenda. He said: “The 5/90 lottery is a real rescue in action because it aligns perfectly with the government’s rescue agenda, which seeks to uplift the lives of our citizens and stimulate economic growth.

“And with the coming of the 5/90 Lotto games, we expect to raise serious revenue legally to contribute to the national budget and also help improve the lives of our people, particularly the orphans, aged, disadvantaged, and people living with disabilities, and this is rescue in action.”

Burphy added that the initiative is expected to yield millions of dollars in annual revenue, which can be channeled into critical sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He also said that the NLA will partner with local groups, media, and residents to ensure the benefits of the 5/90 lottery reach all parts of society.

Addressing concerns about gambling addiction, Burphy confirmed that the authority will implement responsible gaming measures and continuously monitor the lottery’s impact on society. He said: “We take the issue of gambling addiction very seriously. So, as part of our rollout plan, we will be implementing measures to promote responsible gaming and those who are to play the game.”
