Staff at Pure Casino Lethbridge in Alberta vote to unionise
Workers have voted to join the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
Canada.- Pure Canadian Gaming employees in Lethbridge, Alberta, have voted to unionise. They will join western Canada’s largest union, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
Some 155 workers voted in favour of joining the union. The organisation said the PURE Casino employees join more than 100,000 public and private sector workers “fighting for fair wages and better working conditions”. The Alberta Labour Relations Board granted AUPE certification on April 17.

The union said that a date to begin collective bargaining between the venue and the new AUPE Local 118 Chapter 028 members will be decided soon.
AUPE vice-president Curtis Jackson commented: “The staff at Pure Casino Lethbridge know that there is power in a union. We are ready to leverage that power to get the wages and working conditions they deserve. Employers and government policies in Alberta have been moving in the wrong direction – this is the proof of that. With determination and support from our fellow workers, we can stand up to our employers and demand the collective agreements we deserve.”
