Bill proposes legalisation of igaming in Washington DC
The Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026 would also ban sweepstake casinos.
US.- Councilmember Wendell Felder has introduced a bill that proposes the legalisation igaming in Washington DC. The Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026 would also ban sweepstakes casinos and other dual-currency gaming products.
Felder argues that online casino-style games and slot-style games are already accessible to residents through unregulated and offshore platforms. “In the absence of a legal framework, these platforms operate without meaningful consumer safeguards, age verification, or regulatory oversight, creating risks for residents and limiting the District’s ability to respond. The scope of this activity is significant”, he said.
Felder wrote: “This bill reflects a practical, data-informed approach to strengthening consumer protections, modernising our gaming framework, and capturing revenue that is currently flowing outside of the District’s oversight.”
