US horse racing handle falls 2.54% in Q2 2026
Wagering on US horse races continues to decline.
US.- Horse racing in the US generated $3.2bn in bets through the second quarter of 2026, down 2.54 per cent year-on-year. The June numbers reinforced a four-year trend: monthly wagering fell 4.70 per cent to $911.9m.
The results come after several racing circuits reduced their schedules or faced weather-related disruptions. Race days in the quarter fell from 997 to 978, while the number of races declined from 8,004 to 7,897 year over year. The average wagering per race day was down 2.41 per cent to $3,298,243.
Despite the decline in betting, prize purses reached $340.7m in Q2, up 3.51 per cent.
