UKGC issues consumer warning about Betowen site

The UK Gambling Commission has issued a warning to British consumers regarding online gaming website betowen.com.

UK.- The UK Gambling Commission has issued a warning to British consumers regarding online gaming website betowen.com. The online operator falsely claims to be licensed by the Gambling Commission. The truth is it lists a fictitious license number on its website and a company registration number belonging to a residential property management firm.

Betowen website appears to be related to an actual Gambling Commission licensee granted to Smart TV Broadcasting. However, Smart TV broadcasting’s license was suspended this week on suspicion that it is “unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities.”

“Betowen is fully regulated and licensed in the United Kingdom in accordance with the UK Gambling Commission under license number 000-002715-R-103240-006,” reads betowen website statement. “Smartlivecasino.com/casino is operated by Smart Gaming Group Malta Ltd and powered by Net Entertainment, which has a Class 4 License in Malta (MGA/CL1/574/2009).”

In its warning, the British regulator explains that this operator is not licensed by the Gambling Commission despite the claim displayed on its website.

“BetOwen is of considerable concern and the Commission is taking action,” said the regulator. “In the meantime consumers are being advised not to deposit money with this website.”
