Two possible winners in Japan
Las Vegas Sands and MGM were targeted as the potential operators of the new casinos in Japan.
Japan.- Japanese press revealed an expert’s analysis on the upcoming casino industry, which selected Las Vegas Sands and MGM International as the most potential choices to operate Osaka and Yokohama gaming venues. The comprehensive assessment was held by the American Independent Investment Research, Morningstar.
Both casino companies have accomplished great recognition in the international gaming market as they operate several venues throughout the world, including in Asia. Las Vegas Sands currently operates casinos in Singapore and Macau, where the company showed positive results. Meanwhile, MGM International also reported relevant growths worldwide and in Macau.
“In our view, the companies best positioned to receive a gaming concession by year-end 2019 are those with strong track records of running world-renowned integrated resorts, especially in regions with stringent regulatory control like Singapore and the U.S,” reported Morningstar in this week’s analysis.
As casino operators are competing for the license, the national government has not decided the regulations to finally allow the construction of the gaming venues. However, the Japan Experts’ Committee has approved and planned several projects to move forward with the gaming legalisation. The gaming industry bill in Japan could only become effective once legislators approve a regulation on problem gambling. Casino resorts licenses and constructions are still delayed until the legislature defines conditions to operate considering gambling addiction among Japanese residents.
