Tribes could operate sports betting in Connecticut

Governor Ned Lamont met with the state tribes and they may operate sports betting in Connecticut should they manage to come to an agreement.

US.- The segment is thriving across every state which legalised it and everybody wants a bite. That’s why local tribes may soon get to operate sports betting in Connecticut.

The state and the Mashantucket Pequot & Mohegan tribes had been trying to come to an agreement on several gambling topics. However, they seem to be unable to meet halfway on a global deal. Still, Governor Ned Lamont is optimistic on their chances with a smaller goal like sports betting.

“I had a good meeting with the [tribal] leaders, and I think we’re moving towards places where we can reach an agreement,” Lamont said. “The rest of the country and all our neighbouring states are working hard on sports betting… we need to do (the same) to make us competitive in this growing economy. I want to do that in association with the tribes. We’re doing that in collaboration and doing it in a way that mitigates the risk of a lawsuit.”

“I’d like a global agreement,” Lamont said, as quoted by the Hartford Courant. “I’d like to solve everything for world peace. But in the meantime, I’m going to take what I can get.’’

“Let’s keep it simple,” he added. “Right now, the iLottery is important for us. It’s one of the things we had in mind when it came to how we can subsidise community college and move toward debt-free community college. Sports betting, I think, is something where I think we can reach broad agreement going forward.’’
