Tribe discards one possible casino location in Connecticut

The Mohegans and Mashantucket Pequots eliminated East Windsor, one of the proposed locations for its casino in the state.

US.- A tribal joint venture between the Mohegans and Mashantucket Pequots is looking for a location to open its third casino in Connecticut. One of the proposed sites for the facility, East Windsor, was discarded, announced the operators on Wednesday.

The three remaining locations are East Hartford, Hartford and Windsor Locks and the tribes will enter a second round of negotiations. The joint venture runs the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos.

“East Windsor’s clear desire to host this facility made this decision really difficult,” said Kevin Brown, chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council. “However, the fact that one site was removed by the developer and others were not submitted by the property owner made pursuing a facility there extremely challenging.”

On its part, East Windsor First Selectman Robert Maynard said:”I would have liked to see it go to a referendum, I’ve heard both pros and cons for the project. It would have been good economic development but people brought up a lot of reasons as to why it wouldn’t have been.”
