Tiverton Casino expands operation hours
The Rhode Island facility Tiverton Casino is now allowed to stay a 24-hour operating licensee after the Town Council approved the move.
US.- Rhode Island residents now have the possibility of visiting Tiverton Casino Hotel at any time of the day. The city has approved at a public hearing a 24-hour operating licence for the Tiverton Casino Hotel.
Tiverton has to renew the licence every year, subject to show-cause hearings to see if the facility violated any regulations. Tiverton received at least US$3 million every year in gambling revenue, as well as property taxes and meal taxes.
Mark Russo, casino attorney, told the Town Council at the hearing that the 24-hour operating licence was important for Tiverton Casino Hotel in order to remain competitive. The facility currently offers table games, slot machines and sports betting operations.
Sports betting’s performance in Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Lottery, the body in charge of handling sports betting operations in the state, reported that June was a successful month for sportsbooks in the state, as they more than doubled revenues.
The Lottery reported that the two sportsbooks in the state registered a combined revenue of US$2.1 million. The figure is significantly higher than the US$899k that they had posted in the previous month. Despite these numbers, sports betting handle suffered a setback to US$14.7 million from May’s US$18.9 million.
June was the best month to date for Rhode Island’s Twin River and Tiverton Casino sportsbooks, as they posted record-highs. Twin River took in US$11.7 million in bets and generated US$1.7 million in revenue in June. On the other hand, Tiverton Casino generated US$445 million in revenue, with players betting over US$3 million at the facility.
Moreover, and according to the Department of Revenue spokesperson Paul Grimaldi, mobile betting in Rhode Island may be ready by September. He explained the state plans to implement testing of mobile betting apps in August.
