Online betting companies join forces with retailers in Australia

After retailers and ASX-listed card company Emerchants closed an agreement, punters will be able to redeem their online betting accounts at convenience stores and service stations around the country.

Australia.- Following a deal between retailers and ASX-listed card company Emerchants, punters will be able to redeem their winnings at convenience stores and service stations in Australia. Currently punters are able to access winnings from betting accounts through debit cards issued by the major bookmakers.

However, this agreement raised concerns regarding gambling addiction as the public question the ability for bookmakers to offer direct lines of credit to their punters. Following Fairfax Media reports released in March, Woolworths and 7-Eleven backed away from the deal.

“William Hill customers can not only get instant access to their winnings but they can deposit directly into their accounts, making their experience even faster and easier,” said James Burroughs, William Hill’s spokesman, adding that top-up service would give customers the “best experience possible.”

Emerchants explained that the top-up services included “independently owned petrol stations, convenience stores and newsagents.” Both William Hill and Bet365 have signed up for the service, whilst other online bookmakers are expected to follow shortly.
