Myanmar could allow new casinos

Five regional governments of Myanmar are pushing to bring in new casinos to the region.

Myanmar.- The central government of Myanmar is holding a debate with five regional state ministers in order to decide the future of new casinos in the country. The proposal was sent  to Vice President Henry Van Thio in the capital Naypyidaw last month, as local press revealed this week.

Casino industry in Myanmar is prohibited, although the illegal gaming venues are highly popular among residents and international players, who mostly come from Thailand. An important amount of national revenue is lost in Thailand as local residents usually travel to Myanmar and Cambodia to gamble.

The new casinos in Myanmar would be installed at already existing hotels in order to increase the entertainment and touristic options and develop the national income. According to the Myanmar’s newspapers, the casino proposal was presented by the governments of Mandalay, Tanintharyi, Shan, Kayin and Mon.
