IPI calls for deadline extension

Imperial Pacific International has asked for a deadline extension for its 329-room resort in Saipan.

Saipan.- Imperial Pacific International appears likely to delay its 329-room Imperial Pacific Resort and Casino. The company has filed for a deadline extension on the project, which was set to be completed by the end of August.

According to a statement from the company’s lawyer to the Commonwealth Casino Commission, the extension will allow it to make sure the completion proceeds in a “safe engineering and constructional manner.”

In December 2017, Mark Brown – chairman of Imperial Pacific Resort Pacific International – said: “We are still targeting to open the entire facility in August 2018. Hopefully we can get more U.S. workers here… If we can continue to move on and hire 2,000 to 4,000 employees with 50 percent U.S.-eligible workers, that’s a big number. That’s what we are hoping to do.” However, it now seems that IPI won’t be able to fulfil his projection.
