Tabcorp enters UK gaming market with The Sun
The Australian gaming giant and News UK launch a new online wagering and gaming business
UK.- The new business between Tabcorp, the Australian betting, and News Corp’s publication the Sun newspaper will launch in the UK in 2016. The 10 year partnership will build a platform named “Sun Bets”, designed to target UK and Irish gambling markets.
The new online gaming business will bring together Tabcorp’s experience in global wagering and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp base and media assets, such as The Sun, The Times and Sunday Times newspapers and associated sports and racing products.
The agreement -which is still subject to Tabcorp obtaining the necessary licences and regulatory approvals- is structured as a revenue share arrangement. News UK will undertake internal and external media promotion of the business, whilst Tabcorp -responsible for running the backend of the platform- will offer a revenue share deal with News UK each year.
Tabcorp managing director and CEO David Attenborough said: “Entering the UK market in partnership with News is an exciting opportunity for Tabcorp as we take our capability into the AU$7bn UK online gambling market. The Sun has more than 10 million readers per week and over one million football fans actively engaged through The Sun Dream Team FC fantasy football competition. This partnership provides us with the opportunity to create a leading online bookmaker in the UK market under the Sun Bets brand over the coming years and fits with our strategy of pursuing close-to-core international opportunities.”
