Switzerland to keep iGaming sites

Land-based casinos demanded to block international online gaming sites.

Switzerland.- Swiss land-based casinos have requested the government to block the domains (IP) of authorised international iGaming platforms. However, the Legal Affairs Committee of the Swiss National Council decided to remove this condition from the upcoming regulation on the online gaming industry.

The Committee objected the blocking request, but enabled the Federal Gaming Commission to control the international gaming sector. The Commission will have the power to present warnings against online operators, as well as prosecute companies that violate the rules.

Switzerland has not regulated its iGaming market yet, although players have access to international online casinos. Meanwhile, as land-based casino industry is going through a financial crisis, operators have demanded stricter rules against those platforms by blocking the IP.

Swiss private internet service providers companies rejected to help casino operators for free and the government decided to set new rules without blocking the websites. The country is expected to approve a complete regulation on the gambling industry soon.
