Swedish regulator details new licensing process
The local regulatory body from Sweden unveiled that it could start accepting new applications from July 10th.
Sweden.- Sweden’s gambling regulator, Lotteriinspektionen, has revealed that it could start making application documents for new licences from July 10th. The country is getting ready for a new regulatory framework that will start on January 1st, 2019.
Sweden’s legislative sector has created a gambling bill that is set to renew the regulations in the country by opening the online sector to international operators. The bill also establishes changes to the regulator’s function to supervise and set fees, as well as changes to international cooperation and new measures to enforce responsible gaming.
The parliament approved the bill earlier this month by 282-19, and the government decided to study how the market’s liberalisation will impact on existing local betting monopolies Svenska Spel and ATG. The government is expected to approve the measure by July 5th, and if it gets passed, Lotteriinspektionen could include regulations and guidelines by July 24th.
The rules would also come into force on September 1st, three months before the full regulation starts working in the country. “Stakeholders show great interest in the re-regulation of the Swedish gambling market, also internationally. Many operators have already shown interest in applying for a licence in Sweden, which, according to plan, shall be possible from August 1st,” said Lotteriinspektionen.
