Online gambling generates €2.3bn in Sweden in 2019

Online gambling in Sweden and betting on ships contributed more than €1.3 billion during the year.

Sweden.- The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has revealed that licensed land-based and online gambling operators generated an impressive turnover of €2.3 billion in 2019.

The preliminary figures relate to licensed companies and is based on information from the Swedish Tax Agency.

Online gambling and gambling on ships contributed the most, generating €1.3 billion turnover during the year while lottery and vending machines contributed €557 million.

These figures involve licensed operators, but Spelinspektionen also warned about the impact of unlicensed companies.

The authority explained that it has no official information, but works around analysts estimates.

According to H2 Gambling Capital, revenues from Swedish players gambling off-shore was between €170 million and €208 million.
